In 2011, Hi΄ilei Aloha LLC helped to create Ho΄okele Pono LLC, another subentity of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and a sub-subentity known as Ho΄okīpaipai LLC. Both Ho΄okele Pono and Ho΄okīpaipai comprise a line of economic development nonprofit organizations whose missions are to improve the economic standing of Native Hawaiians.
Currently Ho΄okīpaipai houses an economic development program known as the Hawai΄i Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). This is a federal program created by the U.S. Department of Defense/Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The program’s purpose is to help local businesses obtain government contracts. There are more than 90 PTAC centers throughout the United States. DLA provides 50% of the funding for each PTAC center. OHA and other local organizations provide the other 50% of Hawai΄i PTAC’s funding.
